The OV20i uses S-mount (M12 x 0.5) lenses with the Sony IMX296 sensor (1/2.9" format, 1440×1080 pixels, 3.45μm pixel size). All FOV calculations are based on the 4:3 aspect ratio.

Field of View Calculation Formulas

Basic FOV Formula

Horizontal FOV = 2 × arctan(sensor_width / (2 × focal_length)) × distance

Where:

  • Sensor width = 4.97 mm (horizontal)
  • Sensor height = 3.73 mm (vertical)
  • Distance = working distance from lens to object

Optical Limitations

  • Barrel Distortion: Increases with shorter focal lengths (6mm-8mm)
  • Chromatic Aberration: More noticeable at lens edges, especially wide-angle
  • Vignetting: Potential darkening at image corners with mismatched sensor coverage
  • Focus Uniformity: Wide-angle lenses may have focus variation across field
