Digital Input Trigger Setup
This guide shows you how to configure the OV80i's digital inputs to trigger camera inspections from external devices. The camera has 1 trigger input and 2 digital inputs that detect True/False signals from sensors, switches, PLCs, or other automation equipment.
When to Use Digital Input Triggers: Automated production lines with sensors, manual trigger switches, PLC-controlled inspections, conveyor belt integration, or any external device that needs to signal the camera to start an inspection.
Prerequisites
- OV80i camera system set up and connected
- Active recipe configured with imaging and inspection setup
- External trigger device (sensor, switch, PLC output, etc.)
- Understanding of NPN digital input wiring
- M12 connector access for wiring
Digital Input Specifications
The OV80i provides 1 trigger input and 2 digital inputs accessible via the M12 connector:
Input | Pin # | Wire Color | Function |
---|---|---|---|
Digital Input 0 | 5 | Configurable trigger input | |
Digital Input 1 | 1 | Configurable trigger input | |
Trigger Input | 10 | Primary hardware trigger |
Operating Logic:
- NPN Input Type: Common ground switching
- True (ON): Input connected to ground (0V)
- False (OFF): Input open or at 24V
- Signal Voltage: 24V DC nominal
Digital Input Wiring
NPN Wiring Configuration
Standard NPN sensor connection:
+24V ──→ Sensor Power
Ground ──→ Common Ground
Sensor Output ──→ Camera Digital Input Pin
Important: The OV80i uses NPN inputs, which means the input goes True when connected to ground.
Use Node red to access the signal from the input nodes.
